Associational Director of Missions (SWBA) OHIO

Responsibilities:

  • The SWBA D.O.M. is responsible for assisting churches in planning, conducting, and evaluation church growth strategies, church revitalization strategies, and church planting/re-planting strategies.
  • This person will also serve as a pastor to the pastors and church staffs.

Benefits:

  • Full time position which begins at 75K and 2 weeks vacation.
  • This compensation will be evaluated annually, and adjustments will be determined by the leadership team and with approval of the Executive board at a quarterly meeting.

Job Description:

The Associational Director of Missions is called by the Southwestern Baptist Association to help pastors and churches fulfill the Great Commission of Christ.

This is a full-time position, with total compensation of $75,000 annually. This compensation will be evaluated annually, and adjustments will be determined by SWBA leadership team with the approval of the Executive board Principle Function the SWBA.D.O.M is responsible for assisting churches in planning, conducting, and evaluating church growth strategies, church revitalization strategies, and church planting/re-planting strategies. This person will also serve as a pastor to the pastors and church staffs.

Qualifications for the Position

  • A (preferred) college graduate from an accredited four-year institution.
  • Must have a basic grounding in the Word of God, demonstrating an exemplary standard of personal morality and conduct.
  • Must know the joy of a conversion experience and an everyday walk with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • Can demonstrate a specific call to the Ministry.
  • Should have a familiarity with typical church programs, activities, and Southern Baptist Life
  • Model leadership and spirituality to the pastors and churches.
  • Must be in physical health conducive for the position. Must be an active, faithful member of a local Baptist church within the Southwestern Baptist Association, and adhere to the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
  • Must have the ability and the love to relate to people. The Associational Director of Missions is responsible to the Association for all his actions but is directly responsible to the SWBA leadership Team and will consult this team with the laying out of plans and the implementing of programs.
  • Must pass a background check and provide references.

Responsibilities/Duties of the Associational Director Of Missions

  1. Coordinate the ministries of SWBA consistent with existing policies and current vision
  • Support SWBA leadership Team; provide resources as appropriate
  • Support and encourage SWBA pastors and staff.
  • Facilitate networking between churches
  • Identity, and implement, strategies for church growth, church revitalization and church planting in SWBA.
  • Provide report at each SWBA Quarterly Meeting
  1. Facilitate communication
  • Develop, and coordinate management of SWBA website & social media platforms
  • Develop and maintain current directory of churches; pastors/staff in coordination with the SWBA Secretary
  1. Involvement in SWBA and SCBO
  • Attend SWBA team meetings, Executive board meetings, Semi-Annual meeting and Annual meeting.
  • Be involved with the State Convention of Baptist of Ohio by attending the annual meeting. Attend any conferences that would be helpful to the position.
  1. Perform other duties as requested by the SWBA Leadership Team (within normal range of duties)

Job Description: SWBA Director of Missions

The position of Director of Missions (DOM) is not really a job it is a call, a call to help the Southwestern

Baptist Association (SWBA) churches carry out the Great Commission. SWBA has identified the following

areas of needed assistance.

  1. Minister to the Churches and Church Leaders
    1. Build up pastors and churches in their ministries. Aid their personal and professional development through encouragement, counsel, and making known to them all resources available.
    2. Assist pastors and churches in need of counsel and guidance. Offer assistance to pastors/staff and churches in conflict.
    3. Serve as consultant to church committees, pastor-less churches, pastor search committees, etc., as needed and requested.
    4. Make routine visits, ceremonial visits, and functional visits to churches. Teach and preach in individual churches according to needs, opportunities and availability. (The DOM should not serve as an interim pastor)
  2. Mission Strategist
    1. Provide missionary leadership to churches and assist them in planning and accomplishing their objectives.
    2. Research and evaluate projects to discover missionary needs within SWBA and lead the churches to cooperate in meeting those needs.
    3. Inform the churches of the SWBA mission needs such as camp volunteers, DR volunteers, etc., and work to involve as many churches as possible in sending workers into the mission fields. (including IMB)
  3. General Leader
    1. Communicate, communicate, communicate in order to keep our co-mission (churches of SWBA) connected, vital, and on mission for Christ. Strengthen relationships & developing new relationships among churches encouraging the congregations to become a family of churches.
    2. Provide leadership for the associational leadership structure in planning, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating the work of SWBA.
    3. Provide office management and supervise support staff and all facilities.
    4. Serve SWBA/denominational communication/contact agent. (SBC/SCBO/IMB)
    5. Report to the executive board at regular meetings and to the SWBA in annual meetings.
    6. Perform any other duties necessary to the efficiency of the association.

Standard of Conduct

  1. The Director of Missions must fulfill the responsibilities of his office in coordination with the Executive Board and within the limits of the association’s constitution and policy, Southern Baptist polity and personal Christian ethics.
  2. He should be committed Christian with a call to missions and evangelism and with a commitment to the Lord through regular Bible study and prayer.
  3. He should be responsible to work with the staff and agencies of the Ohio Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention.
  4. He should have experience in and knowledge of the Southern Baptist Convention churches, doctrine, programs, and relationships.
  5. His education should be adequate to function at a high level of efficiency and capable of dealing with the constituency of the association.
  6. He should have experience and demonstrate involvement in associational work and an ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate the work of the association.
  7. Become a member of a SWBA church.
